ConverSLations with Victoria Lenoirre
In an effort for all of us to get to know each other better, I’ve decided to conduct some friendly (and not at all prying) questionnaires. I hope it’ll help connect us to others, and bring our little community closer. Today, we have Victoria Lenoirre.
What’s your SL name and what do people call you? Victoria Lenoirre and people call me Vic or Lady V, some still remember my display name used to be Lady Victoria Lenoirre.
How old is your avatar? Is it your first? My avatar is over 3 years old, this is my first one. I joined July 4, 2011, at night.
Do you have any SL family or RL family in SL? I have an uncle and 2 SL sisters in SL. Only one is in SL just every day and I know her from a roleplay family, Western Geishas. Dee is just wonderful! We have a lot in common.
How old are you and where do you live? My RL age…well ok. You might call me a baby after this…I’m 27. I just had my birthday in June. I live in cold New Hampshire and have been living there for nearly 20 years.
What’s your home life like? My home life can be very busy during the day. At night it settles down so I can focus more of my attention on SL activities.
Why did you join SL? I was intrigued by the graphics and I heard of SL from some guys at a discussion forum I used to frequent.
What do you do in SL? In SL, I like to shop of course Lol. I have a small collection of Huds, AOs, shoes, and hair. Lately I’ve been shopping for textures and furniture for building or photography. I started doing serious photography in 2012. When I feel inspired or motivated, I create poses or animations. Creating poses can be pretty strenuous at times. I do it by hand and I really want to make it look as realistic as I possibly can. Animation was the reason I wanted to learn photography. And it’s starting to become fun. In the beginning it was hard going, not knowing what I was doing and being frustrated that my attempts were lame or awful. I have a lot of early work at koinup, you’ll see what I mean. It really takes a lot of practice and perseverance to get good at your craft.
A month after I joined SL, I started writing. I love to write. In SL, I’ve been writing about art and business owners for 3 years now. The creativity and their dedication is what I love to write about and describe. Most people are too happy to sit down and answer my questions either in local chat, IM, by notecard, or IM. I’ve written for many SL magazines and I write in a few blogs. UWA in SL blog is a blog I am a guest blogger for. Jayjay invited me to write for the blog and it is so wonderful. I really enjoy it.
When and how did you start? I’d like to thank my friend and mentor brinda Allen, who is no longer in SL. She passed away in August 2012. She inspired me and pushed me to be good at something. She would take me places to view buildings, including the first build in SL, The Beanstalk, Governor Linden’s mansion, the Columbia crash site, and other places. All of this was to show me that SL has a lot of creative minds in it. She knew that if I wanted to, I too could create something good and give back to SL and help others. Brinda was all about helping people. Without her, I don’t think I would’ve stayed in SL as long as I have. She found me at a Welcome Area and helped me get essential items for my avatar, nothing fancy, but just items I needed so I didn’t look hairless or waddle like a duck.
Another friend, Tsali Kamachi, also saw I had potential. He said I should start my own business. I didn’t know what I wanted to do. So, I took a lot of classes. It was at NCI that I realized I wanted to create animations and poses. I’m thankful to Protomas Ludwig for teaching that class. I checked youtube and then joined a few groups and asked questions. But even before taking classes, I was fascinated by how we could get our avatars to move. I love couple dances. As I said, I have collected AOs and lately I’ve been checking out Mocap dances. Motion capture is amazing and maybe someday I’ll create some in my own mocap studio.
Photography is everywhere in SL. And it’s so easy to do. People take snapshots and upload to inventory and since last year, people can share photos in their SL feed. But I wanted to create really realistic photos. I have met many photographers in SL and some I count as good friends and I’m learning so much from their example. I’m thankful for all that they do. My first photography mentor showed me his sets and taught me the importance of a facelight.
When not working in SL, what are you doing? When I’m not working, I could be editing photos in Gimp, chatting wiht friends, reading a book, browsing youtube, watching a movie, exercising, or just working in RL. There’s so much one can do in this life.
Who is the most fun/interesting person you’ve worked with? Oh, that’s a tough question. I’ve met so many fun and interesting people in SL. I’m not good at defining the MOST fun or even MOST boring person in SL. I suppose I can name a few of my favorites. There’s Bruce, Steve, brinda, Meryll, Roger, Wheeler, and Chuckmatrix, to name a few. They brighten up my SL experience and I can look to them for a fresh perspective or some funny comments. I’m so thankful to have people like then in my SL.
Who do you want to work with? I can’t think of a specific person at the moment. The people I want to work with are the ones that show passion for what they do and are doing something that I want to help with.
What do you wish you could do in SL? Haha. I wish I could do so much more than I can do, don’t we all? I wish I could script, build gorgeous creations like a castle or chapel, create my own mesh and sculpts, create mocap animations, create clothes…do it all. LOL.
What is your favourite creation? My favorite creation would have to be a pose I called Star gazing. It was the first pose I ever uploaded to market place and it was my best seller for awhile. I was so thrilled when my first SL partner bought it. He was very supportive of my work.
I love the song that inspired that pose. I started getting better at taking photos and editing.
What is your one SL vice or guilty pleasure? My one guilty pleasure is visiting crowded places and profile perving. I like to take a look at profiles and if I’m interested enough in the person, I’ll strike up a conversation and chat or even flirt. This usually happens when I’m bored. LOL.
What is the oldest thing (you can find) in your inventory? The oldest thing in my inventory…I can’t name one. I have a lot of old stuff in inventory like the old newbie skins that are transfer. Brinda gave me those and for months, I went around in a newbie skin. Then one day I went to Redgrave and bought my first photo realistic skin, that was a big step for me. Before that, I didn’t want to spend much on my appearance. Now, people comment on how great my avatar looks and I’m thinking, “you have no idea how much effort it takes.” Shopping for clothes and the right hair in SL is difficult. It can take days.
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be? Hmmm. Persistent, passionate, busy. Friends call me a busy bee. LOL.
Does SL influence your RL style? Vise versa? RL influences my SL style. I take what I see in RL and try to incorporate it into my SL.
What’s your favourite pasttime? I like to dance with friends.
